There will be changes to the Kapiolani Boulevard afternoon contraflow.
Starting July 17, the city will be doing a pilot project to allow left turns where Kapiolani Boulevard intersects with McCully Street and Atkinson Drive.
Councilman Trevor Ozawa has been urging the city to get rid of the afternoon contraflow all together.
But he's happy that the city's doing this project.
"I really think it's going be positive for the community because it's been 66 years since we made any alterations," Ozawa said. "And the reality is so many people often knock down these cones in this area. They're the most heavily traveled left turns."
The city will start collecting data in September when school is back in session because that will reflect typical traffic conditions.
The city will review the results and decide whether to continue the project in October.
