About a year ago, I took the oath of office to begin serving as the Councilmember of Honolulu's 4th Council District, spanning from Ala Moana to Hawaii Kai.
From assisting District 4 residents with various city-related inquiries and issues to working on developments throughout the island, the past year has been exciting and busy. The Honolulu City Council addressed a lot of important issues in the past year; we adopted a $2.3 billion operating budget and $569 million capital improvement project budget, of which we committed nearly $140 million to specific programs and initiatives to address the growing issue of homelessness.
I continue to work with my colleagues on a number of issues including: keeping a careful eye on the operations of the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation, exploring and identifying ways to improve the Honolulu Zoo, working with Waikiki tourism/hospitality industry leaders to continue our investment into the epicenter of our state's tourism industry for the benefit of residents and visitors, and above all -- working toward the goal of enhancing our home.
As I begin my second year in office, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on our accomplishments this past year. You can see a summary below:
